Attention and behavioral state

How does a larval zebrafish switch its attention, and what does that reveal about state-dependent processing?

Zebrafish whole-brain imaging from Dunn et al. (2016), Ahrens lab, eLife (CC BY 4.0)

Larval zebrafish are small and transparent enough to record activity across the whole brain while they behave. With the Engert and Ahrens labs, we study how fish switch between attending to and ignoring a visual stimulus, and model these switches as transitions between engaged and disengaged behavioral states.
